Upcoming Ag/Enviromental Forums

Starting Monday, Feb. 2, 2009,a number of organizations are hosting a series of forums on climate, soil, water, pesticides, fertilizer, and food vs. fuel debate. These forums will be lead by Mark Seeley, a U of M professor of Soil, Water and Climate. The time is 7:00 PM, and will be held at the Community Resource Bank, 1605 Heritage Drive, Northfield, in the Community Room. The forums will be held on February  2, February 16, March 2, March  16, and March 30, 2009.

    I stopped in late to meet Prof. Seeley, and there was a good crowd there. I have asked Brad Carlson of Extension for names of speakers for the other four forums so we can post them here.

    Each meeting has a different speaker(s):

    February 16: The Impacts of Agricultural Drainage
    Dr. Satish Gupta, U of M Dept of Soil, Water and Climate
    Dr. Craig Schrader, Extension Educator

    March 2: Hypoxia and Fertilizer Use
    Dr. David Mulla, Endowed Chair on Minnesota’s Resources, U of M
    Dr. Gyles Randall, Soil Scientist, U of M Southern Research and Outreach Center

    March 16: Pesticides and Water Quality
    March 30: The Food Versus Fuel Debate

    Brad Carlson of Extension informed me the last two forums are cancelled (Mar. 16 and Mar. 30) due to problems getting speakers.
